Easy to Follow Self-Learning Modules

To get the maximum benefit out of these modules, please follow the guidelines given closely.

Before you start learning a Raga, it is important to listen to famous renditions of the Raga to familiarize yourself with its melody. It is also useful to read as much information that is available on the Raga, understand its uniqueness, and listen to popular film songs that have been set to its scale.

There are certain steps to follow when beginning to learn a Raga.

  • Understand the structure of the Raga by looking at the swaras. What are the aroha and avaroha scales, and the pakkad phrase that defines the raga? Pay attention to the Vadi and Samvadi Swaras, the notes that are the anchors of the Raga. What is the raga’s challan, or the way it moves?
  • Begin with the Sargamgeet, the composition that will outline the structure of the Raga and bring forth all the technical aspects, while integrating it with tala.
  • Proceed to the Lakshangeet, to strengthen the grasp of the Raga along with the sastras of the text.
  • When the above areas have been mastered, begin with the bandish as an entryway into exploring the raga further.

 

Before you start learning any raga, read as much information  available on the raga, understand the uniqueness of the raga, listen to famous renditions, famous film songs, you should start liking the Raga.

  • Understand the structure of the Raga
  • Note Swaras in the Raga & Varjeetswars of the Raga
  • Note Vadi & Samvadi Swaras of the Raga
  • Understand the challan & Pakkad of the Raga

Start with

  1. Aroha/Avroha & Pakkad
  2. Listen to the demo carefully at least 3 / 4 times
  3. Practice along with the demo at least 7/10 times
  4. Compare your performance to that of demo, till you are satisfied
  5. Upload your practice file for feedback
  6. Practice following recommendations/ suggestion of our Gurus. Send us your practice file for approval
  7. On getting ok from our gurus proceed further

Sargamgeet

  • Listen to the demo carefully at least 3/ 4 times
  • Take first two lines of the Sthayee to Practice. Following the demo carefully, practice at least 5- 10 times
  • Once you can comfortably follow the demo, Use practice track to practice using music Track.  Practice at least 5-10 times
  • Once you are satisfied upload the file for feedback
  • Work on our Gurus comments / feedback
  • On getting ok, proceeds further till you complete the Sargamgeet

Lakshangeet

  • Listen to the demo carefully at least 3/ 4 times
  • Take first two lines of the Sthayee to Practice. Following the demo carefully, practice at least 5- 10 times
  • Once you can comfortably follow the demo, Use practice track to practice using music Track.  Practice at least 5-10 times
  • Once you are satisfied with your practice, upload the file for feedback
  • Work on our Gurus comments / feedback
  • On getting ok, proceeds further till you complete the Lakshangeet

Bandish

  • Listen to the demo carefully at least 3/ 4 times
  • Take first two lines of the Sthayee to Practice. Following the demo carefully, practice at least 5- 10 times
  • Once you can comfortably follow the demo, Use practice track to practice using music Track.  Practice at least 5-10 times
  • Once you are satisfied with your practice, upload the file for feedback
  • Work on our Gurus comments / feedback
  • On getting ok, proceeds further till you complete the Bandish
